The incident occurred two years ago when Officer Josh Douglas was working nights and went through the McDonald's drive-thru in Charles City. He politely ordered a chicken sandwich that came with lettuce and tomato. As the officer is not a great lover of vegetables, he tried to remove the toppings. Mush to his surprise, he noticed a ‘mucousy substance’ holding the vegetables together. Douglas accompanied by another officer went inside the restaurant and asked for explanations. The employees said they were imitating a prank in a movie in which a state trooper orders a burger and the cook spits phlegm on it. Hmmm………..who says movies do not inspire? Douglas and his attorney, Joel Yunek since then negotiated with McDonald's but have been unable to reach a settlement. Yunek said, this client deserves some kind of compensation and apology. The records shows, both the employees were fired and one apologized to Douglas right away. Hmm...........so what’s left? Compensation. They filed a lawsuit on May 8 in Floyd County District Court. Douglas said it's not about money but about accountability and to ensure the restaurant takes measures to ensure their employees are handling food properly. Sam Soifer, the owner of the Charles City franchise, said in a written statement that the restaurant took immediate action to fire the employees and that McDonald's takes food safety seriously. Surely, officer Douglas feels, the fast food chain should realize the mistake by paying a sum of money. Well, a cop’s got to do, what a cop’s gat to do. |
