The UK rejected requests from the US and did not allow CIA planes to utilize its airports to secretly transfer terrorism suspects to third countries or into US run jails – a report by Council of Europe revealed. The report also suggests that the US and its NATO allies secretly agreed to allow CIA to hold terror suspects in Europe.

This report was a consequence of a probe that was launched 18 months ago by the Association of Chief Police Officers after human rights group Liberty claimed that flights chartered by the CIA landed in UK airports. It was also claimed that the CIA "extraordinary rendition" flights have flown into Britain more than 210 times since 2001.

Human rights group Liberty was concerned that the flights were on their way to jails where suspects were tortured. Greater Manchester Police examined all of the information available related to this issue and concluded that there is indeed no evidence to substantiate Liberty's allegations, Liberty rejected the report and the investigation team of "spin".

It also questioned whether there had in fact been any investigation.
