The suspected robbers initially took six hostages, but released three women after about two hours, leaving two customers and one employee inside. The bank is situated in a shopping mall at the foot of a tower block that houses the administrative offices of Rungis market. The bank is one of about 20 grouped together in an area known as ‘the money wall’ by market employees. A bank employee who managed to escape when the two men arrived had alerted police. An elite police unit took up position around the bank. Elite police officers negotiated with the hostage-takers and later entered the building, arrested the men and freed the remaining hostages, who were all unharmed. |
