The family was and still is the number one safety net for Singaporeans in times of need. As the time passes, the rate is actually increasing. A recent survey conducted by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports shows that an overwhelming 91% of Singaporeans would turn to their families when they face problems of any kind.

The Philippine and the US Navies formally opened a yearly joint exercise in the southern island of Mindanao on 31 May 2007. This exercise is named as the 2007 Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT).

Thousands of refugees in Nepal are protesting on the Indian frontier as border guards stopped them from crossing into India on their way to homeland in Bhutan. The protests started after Bhutan held its second mock election last week as a dress rehearsal for the kingdom’s transition to democracy in 2008.

The UN Human Rights Committee recently expressed its high concern over the Australian authority’s treatment of the Aborigines. The committee, which is due to publish its official recommendations by the second week on June 2007, expressed concern at the marginalisation and discrimination of Aborigines in Australian society.
