A jail riot in central Chile was put under control last week short after the prisoners could escape from the prison.
The riot occurred in San Antonio, a coastal city more than 100 km west of Santiago, when about 50 prisoners tried to break away through the cell roof by burning their bedding and creating barricades using the beds.
With the help of riot police officers from the military, prison officers opened fire to regain control of the jail, which is holding more than 500 prisoners. No one escaped from the prison. No deaths have been reported, but several inmates were injured during the riot. |
