Bolivian government deployed soldiers along borders with Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru to fight the smuggling of liquefied petroleum gas. Bolivia was forced to take the action as the country's most populous cities; La Paz and El Alto in the west and Santa Cruz in the east; are suffering energy shortages due to the smugglings.

In Colombia's main port Buenaventura, leftist rebels on 22 June threw bombs and left 2 people dead and several others injured. The attacks were directed at a police station and commercial areas frequented by civilians.

Mexican government re-arrested a former governor right after his release from the prison. He served a six-year sentence for money-laundering. According to Mexico's Attorney General's Office, the former governor Mario Villanueva was re-arrested on drug-trafficking charges. He served as a state governor of Quintana Roo before imprisoned in 2001.
